BW1000
Miracle of Blu-ray technology

You may have heard about Blu-ray. Now you can experience this amazing technology for yourself. BenQ's BW1000 makes it easy to enjoy the Blu-ray miracle, letting you play back and record Blu-ray discs. This advanced type of media provides storage of up to 25GB on a single-layer disc, and an astounding 50GB on a double-layer disc. Imagine the possibilities when you can store two hours of high-definition TV or more than 13 hours of standard-definition TV content on just one single-layer disc. And of course, you can also enjoy the spectacularly immersive viewing experience of Blu-ray movie discs in addition to creating your own Blu-ray discs from video filmed with a high-definition camcorder. And for simple data storage, Blu-ray discs are also ideal, giving you the same capacity as five DVDs on a single disc.

A terrific 'Trio'

As the digital lifestyle becomes a reality, encompassing not only productivity applications but also entertainment, the need for true high-capacity optical storage devices is increasingly critical. Fulfilling that need is exactly what BenQ's BW1000 is all about. This state-of-the-art optical drive not only reads and writes the new Blu-ray discs, but also DVDs and CDs. You gain the enormous benefits of Blu-ray technology, such as capacity, reliability, and incredible multimedia, while also retaining access to content on older optical disc formats.

Simply more advanced

While Blu-ray technology uses a blue-light laser, rather than the red and infrared lasers used in earlier DVD and CD drives, the BenQ BW1000's sophisticated single-lens design allows the three types of lasers to follow the same beam path. This design keeps the fragile optical pick-up head unit (OPU) simple, ensuring more reliable reads and writes of all types of optical media, while also extending the life of the OPU.

Precisely right
The BenQ BW1000 uses a precision tilt control system (PTCS) to ensure more exact manipulation of the Blu-ray tilt signal. This extra precision is critical in Blu-ray drives because of the extremely high data densities of Blu-ray discs, which make the write process even more sensitive to vibration, noisy signals, and irregularities in the physical media than for DVD or CD discs. The BenQ BW1000's all-new PTCS adds an a-tilt control mechanism and maintains the read/write head at a 90° angle to the disc surface to ensure more reliable performance during both reads and writes, sparing you from playback hiccups and failed burns.

Finishing touches
The BenQ BW1000 also provides a wealth of other features, including the Walking OPC (Optimized Power Calibration) and Solid-Burn technologies that have won acclaim for BenQ's other optical drives. Walking OPC dynamically adjusts the power of the laser during the write process to ensure more reliable burns without errors. The BW1000 Solid-Burn technology applies a self-learning algorithm in examining the optical media prior to burning to determine the best write strategy to ensure the disc's playability and maximum lifetime. This sophisticated technology allows reliable burns of even media from sources not explicitly supported at the time the drive was purchased, saving you from the need to constantly update the media support list for the drive. And the BW1000's separate LED indicators for the three types of optical disc that it handles—Blu-ray, DVD, and CD—make it easy to know what media you're working with
